Expressions

Working on expressions from Preston Blair's Cartoon Animation. I find the drawings that I labor over and try to get precise I end up liking less than the ones that just flow out even though, they might not be as accurate. Now if I could just blend the good parts of both of those. Also, I need to get faster.

  1. Great expressions, the Preston Blair book is so helpful. I love how you stretched the face on 'fright', well one.

A bit of advice: Sometimes what helps me get an expression down is just do a sheet of that expression. Over exaggerate it, under exaggerate it. Sketch it really rough and really tight and sometimes the results end up really interesting. It's a good way to play with the flexibility of the whole face.

Also rough sketches is a good way to work on speed. (sorry for the long comment lol)

  2. Awesome! Thanks for the advice. I'll have to do another expression study trying that stuff out. Now I'm off to check out your blog!
