Animation Time! - Teddy Rig

Today's Inspiration:
“It’s about reaching that moment of pure ecstasy when a drawing just happens. Where every move you make with your hand and every thought you have in your head grows in front of you without any mistakes; no rubbing out, starting again and getting frustrated. It’s like being in a trance – it’s a fluid – and you almost don’t remember doing the picture. Drawing is an escape from all the unnecessary things in life that get in the way of being free.”

Today's Inspiration:
That's My Character!
Everyone who has worked on a picture will feel that he made the personal contribution that caused the cartoon character to come alive on screen. ... "Well, I know he's my character because he's me; I did him!"... to all of them, he is their character! This is as it should be. Unless everyone feels this closeness to the end product, the dedication will not be there and the necessary care will not be taken to insure that the end result will be the finest anyone can do.

Today's Inspiration:
A Drawing is both a representation of inner life and a mere picture. In the past, original sketches used to merge into the final work. Today, we look at them just as if we were listening to a beautiful single note within a symphony. Isolating this note is a way of giving it the credit for being unique particular.

Today's Inspiration:
Drawing / acting is a lifetime adventure. There is no "formula" for becoming a proficient artist. It is just a lifetime of search and discovery. Teachers can only hint at some direction- the artist
has to latch on to some personal method of finding and applying the facts for himself. My highest wish is that all of you will continue to develop your own means of expressing yourselves as performers.

Trying to reach a "goal" is not so much narrowing down to a fine point as it is opening up to a wider range of realization. You concentrate your efforts only by broadening your knowledge and
understanding and skill.

Animation Time! - Simple Bot

Today's Inspiration:
“My work has a vitality and an ‘I don’t give a damn- try it’ quality,”

“I don’t want you to forget that creativeness, imagination, fantasy have to stay with you. You must stay pepped up on your work- you can’t get along a system alone. The first thing we come up against is sincerity and honesty by which I mean if a thing looks sincere
on the screen, it looks as though it would really work, as though it would really work, as though it existed,…..as though gravity held it down. It looks plausible, feels logical….caricature or exaggeration in drawing is very important.   The public never pays for a good drawing. It pays for an exaggerated effect. By caricature I don’t always mean funny  drawing. If you are going to make a fellow lean over, make him lean over plenty. Go twice as far as you think you can in the drawing and you will always be about right. Make the character do everything he does in a decisive, definite way so that the audience will know what he’s doing. The drawing should be direct, definite, and simple. That means again you must have a clear idea of what you are after because it is hard to make a simple drawing. Harder than to make a jumpled-up drawing
with all the details on it.”

Today's Inspiration:
wherever I go I try to have pencil and paper handy.

For me it’s always been about art. So, my master plan is just “A-B-C” … Always Be Creating.

We made a really cool art style here that is in my opinion, similar to some of the
old Disney movies where it may not be the highest technical quality or its not
pushing the most polygons but it’s just a fun style, you know? Mickey Mouse is still
popular around the world and he’s not the most technically evolved character around.
Characters like Popeye are still around. Characters like Scooby Doo …
if you just make something that’s cool and people enjoy playing it, that’s the first thing right?
And if you can make an art style that can still hold up over the years…

Today's Inspiration:
The Study of human anatomy is so much more than the naming of parts and the understanding of their function; it is the celebration of our wondrous physicality in the world. The biological complexity of the body can be weighed against its aesthetic beauty, so that the life that drives us is seen to ripple and pulse above and below the boundary of skin. Art is the perfect tool for revealing such knowledge. Throughout history, artists have used their trained eyes to look deep into our lives and into our very existence. They have given much to the history of medicine and they have also removed the taboo from seeing too much. ... Anatomy is a very potent subject, and the subject is us.

Today's Inspiration:
“Animation is very slow. When you’re an actor, you depend on spontaneity in a scene
and it’s hard to work up spontaneity when you’re doing separate drawings.
The faster you work, the more spontaneity, and that was one of the secrets of the early
Ferguson animation drawings. He could draw almost as fast as he could think.”

“I thought Pinocchio was harder for everybody than Snow White. We finished Snow White and we said
‘Ha. We can do features!’ And everybody went into Pinocchio with this great load of confidence.
Boy, six months later we found out, and Walt found out,
that what you learn in one picture doesn’t necessarily work in the next picture.”

Soldier Walk - Walk a Day

Today's Inspiration:
My style comes from my years of animation, so all I could say is if you wanted to ape my style,
spend thirty years or so animating.  But basically a style comes from all the influences of your particular life,
all your enthusiasms, your inspirations.  So that should make everyone’s style unique.
And it’s very important to develop your own style.
In my own case, I try to keep in mind the simple directive:  Draw better!
I’m not at all sure that comes close to answering the question, but there it is.

For a pure literary quote, though, since it’s a hard time out there these days, this one comes to mind,
and maybe it’s apt:  “We are all of us in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.” – Oscar Wilde

The man they call Moebius trailed a finger along the brow above his healthier eye.  “I have no explanation but I am interested in being alive. No, seriously, staying alive for an artist means to always be in an unknown part of himself. To be out of himself. The exhibition in Paris, the theme was transformation. Art is the big door but real life is a lot of small doors that you must pass through to create something new. You don’t always need to go far. If you are in the space station Mir and you need to fix something, you go outside, but not too far. If you travel too far you’ll die. Outer space is not human but you can visit. You need to be a little bit out there but you need to stay close to human.”

Today's Inspiration:
"I'd love to think of the quality of my work as fine art. On the other hand, I'm in the wrong field. That's because of people and their judgments. If you illustrate a book, you're an illustrator. I'd like to think of Fine Art as being what it sounds like - fine. Quality. There are fine artists that do comics, there are fine artists that do classical art, there are fine artists that do illustration and yet, if they're in a certain field they think of themselves as fine artists when they could be terrible artists. It's the quality of art that counts. Whether it has all the great elements that make great art: the color, the design, the composition, the emotion it creates, all those things. If it doesn't do that, I don't care how skillfully done it is."
