Animation Time! - Ella Rig

Today's Inspiration:
Can't we make our lives and our literature of some value?

This film is what Art is about, and it’s about real life.

More Movement and Maya!

Finally finished the color on the last part of the Preston Blair hunter sneak!

and sorta roughed it all together, although there's a couple things I want to do to smooth it out, hopefully tomorrow!

Had a blast posing AnimationMentor's Stu rig yesterday so I figured I'd practice a bit more today as well!

Tried a more subdued yet expressive pose. I'm not sure it really communicates, but definitely a good exercise.

Tonight's inspiration is brought to you by Bert Klein and Teddy Newton, by way of Michael Sporn!

The wonderful world of color ...

Got stuck a little late at work and had to run some errands so tonight's update will be quite late... If I can keep my eyes open!

Cleaned up the rough from last night,

and spent a little too much time coloring it.

I'm really loving putting color in the images. It seems to give them just that little extra pop. Michael Sporn put up a great post on Gustaf Tenggren's illustration. I simply adore his use of color. Thanks for the inspiration!

Avast me hearties!

Responsibilities, necessary daily tasks, most parts of life in general... I wish there was some way to condense them all into one lump of time, or get rid of them all together. I know, I know it's supposed to be everything in moderation, but if you do that how do you ever focus on something and hone you skills. Alas, a dilemma for another day, or rather drink up me hearties, yo ho!

Pirate a Day

Our little hero, never one to let a good opportunity get the best of him, jumped on top of the fallen choking swine beast, grabbed his broken skewer, and with all the strength he could muster thrust it through his mouth and out the back of his skull.

On Friday night I got a chance to watch part of Pirates of the Caribbean for the first time in quite a while. Wanting some sort of a new twist I put on the commentary track and Gore Verbinksi and Johnny Depp have some pretty decent insight into one of my favorite movies. Out of everything the movie has to offer, I think they really captured the atmosphere and feel of Marc Davis' original concept.

To my surprise, the next morning Michael Sporn posted some of my new favorite Marc Davis pirate illustrations. Some of the images are so iconic to me and pictures I have loved since I was little, but between Mr Sporn's post and the Disney and More blog post I've found a few new treasures. Not only do I admire Marc's draftsmanship and the amount of energy and life his illustrations exude, but his subtle color choices mixed with a few vibrant highlights make the scenes look historic and fantastical at the same time. Thanks for inspiring the little pirate inside me!

Finding the Balance

With school starting, work, drawing, and life, I've got to reevaluate everything in order to find the balance in a new routine that works. Although it's new and exciting every once in a while it's a little rocky. I'm finding drawing is a lot like that too. Some days you can just whip out a drawing without thinking in only few minutes and it just works. Other days you struggle trying to produce something that's half way decent. Overall you have to keep drawing to try to find that balance of talent, ability and skill vs hard work, persistence and knowledge. Here's to the adventure!

It wasn't long after reaching his proverbial pigsty that the porker hungered for the flesh of our little hero.

Pirate a Day

One of my favorite moments every morning is checking to see what great post Michael Sporn made for the day. One day it might be some great behind the scenes moment or drawing in Disney history, the next its some rare collection of images from some forgotten illustrator, or simply a garden of flowers he found extra beautiful. If you haven't checked out his site yet, bookmark it right now, it really is a treat! Thanks for the inspiration!

iDaily

Time sure does fly when you're having fun, drawing that is. Tried out a few different things tonight. Just to spice it up. Still did a little Preston Blair study. The cat on the right feels more like a John K style than Preston Blair though.

MiniAthena is the last of the big Greek gods. Now I have to decide where I want to go from here.

I needed a new wallpaper for my Ipod and my Droid, I also needed a new daily Gilligan drawing.

Since I was on an update kick I figured I'd update my Twitter page too, and I wanted to work with some colored pencils.

Everyday since March 16th, save for the Double post day, I've updated my drawing blog. The main reason I do this, besides that it's great to have the accountability and I'd be drawing anyways, is because I love it when the sites I visit are updated daily. Sure there's Twitter and Facebook, but I also check Cartoon Brew, Michael Sporn Animation, and the John K Stuff site daily. Lucky for me they are almost always updated every 24 hours. So I'll continue to do so in that same fashion too. Thanks for the inspiration!
