Animation Time! - Trixxie Rig
Today's Inspiration:
If you're behind the times, they won't notice you. If you're right in tune with them, you're no better than they are, so they won't care much for you. Be just a little ahead of them.
I think if you're a creative person, you should just go about your business, do your work, and not care about how it's received.

Today's Inspiration:
“’That’s surprising. Because every week I get a batch of cartoons from you – and I like your stuff, it’s pretty good – and every week your cartoons are about cultural stuff like art, music, history, science. But The Saturday Evening Post isn’t about such things. It’s a family magazine about ladies’ stockings hanging on the shower rail, kids stealing cookies out of the cookie jar, taking the dog to the vet. Sure, our readers have heard of Picasso and Freud, but they’re not interested in jokes about them. What they’re interested in is jokes about themselves … Well, does that make any sense to you?’”

Today's Inspiration:
For me, a degree of ambiguity, or mystery, is the key ingredient of any artistic statement.
I often remind myself that animation is the creation of the illusion of spontaneity.
Because nothing is in fact less spontaneous than the process of animating.

Animation Time! - Box Creatures Quadruped Rig
Today's Inspiration:
To be deemed to be OK, to be part of the culture, that's the kiss of death. When I'm pushing against something it helps me define what I believe. I've always been led to see what's beyond, what's round the corner. The world tries to say that this is what it is, and don't go any further, because out there are monsters. But I want to see what they are. So when I talk about the others in the group not having done more, that's because I really admire them, and I get angry when I see those with extraordinary talents not using them.
Whether I like it or not, or whether anybody else does, when I start a film I have a few ideas. And as you're getting into it, you think, 'Ooh, there's another idea,' and you're shooting some more and, 'Oh, here's another thing. Let's do that.' I'm always changing and adding. That's just the way my mind works.

It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things.
I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do.

Work to me is something you don't want to do, but you have to do it to live. But what I do, I would do whether anybody wanted it or didn't want it.
Try to distill the character of your subject. Understand how he moves, thinks, acts. It's difficult to put into words. Consider each drawing as a problem that did not exist before, and then try to solve that problem to the best of your ability. That is what caricature is all about.

Today's Inspiration:
My reason for that isn't all intellectual. It's a way of creating something that seems new. It's a very practical thing to do.
You know, I've been doing this for twenty years, and I'm continually dissatisfied. I make a religion of being dissatisfied. I don't think there is a point in doing a book and saying, "Isn't that wonderful?" Then you don't learn. When people ask what's the best book you ever did, there's no point in saying, "Oh, that was four years ago." That means everything since was worse, right? So I say, it's the next book. Then, you know, even though I've done the best book I think I can do, I know the book I'm going to do might be even better. It's all delusion, but it does keep one trying one's best.

That is the value of pictures to make us feel life and truth!
Anybody can learn to draw. It is ease to draw, but it is very difficult to think. You haven’t material with which to think because you are all blind. Most people are blind. They don’t really see what is around them. Mention some building they have seen a hundred times. They cannot give an accurate description of it from memory. Store your mind richly by cultivating your observation.

Animation Time! - Stewart Rig
Today's Inspiration:
DO WHAT YOU LOVE. If you are passionate about what you're doing, it shows. If you're having fun, it shows. If you're bored, IT SHOWS.
You MUST stay Excited and Motivated. You need to stay fresh. Expose yourself to new things. New techniques. You should be getting tired of your own s*** on a fairly regular basis. Otherwise other people will.
Stop worrying about all the other stuff—the pencils, the paper, the anatomy, all that S***. It will only get you so far. You've already got most of what you need.
But here's the deal. YOU NEED TO TAKE RISKS. Guess what? YOU ARE MOST LIKELY GOING TO FAIL. If you want it—REALLY want it, that won't stop you. You will learn A LOT.

Today's Inspiration:
One day you just start looking at things as an artist. As time goes by, everything you see you see as blocks, shapes, forms, colors, hues. After years you know what you want to see on that blank canvas and you just instinctively know how to achieve it. Everything is automatically on the paper. There's no longer any terror of that blank sheet of paper. It's a welcome friend.

Today's Inspiration:
It is an ancient precept that the person who would be an artist must first learn to draw. Anyone who has ever wished to become an artist - who has taken those first faltering steps down the road to art - has begun with the desire to draw. It was the love of drawing that confirmed all those initial hopes. And through all the later aspirations as long as the creative drive flourished, the urge to draw never died.
Let us venture, speculatively, one last proposal. In all the World's art, the highest inspirations, the most lofty visual expressions center around the hand.

Today's Inspiration:
The thing that’s most important is drawing and learning how to draw better, or painting and learning how to paint better. So, how could an artist retire? I go to museums and I study a lot of art, it’s the only thing I know how to do. So, that’s what gets me up every morning and that’s why I’m still alive.
This thing about creating and being an artist and being a cartoonist is the most important thing we have: you, me, anyone else. There are other things more important, but that’s what we love. Now, how much money we make at it and how much we suffer is different for everybody, regardless of talent and that’s the way life is, it’s not fair. But if you [ever] give up drawing or painting or learning more about the arts, you’re hurting yourself because that’s all we really are.

But the remarkable thing about going through a disheartening session is that the student is very often on the threshold of marvelous discovery
The pencil, pen, or brush are not magic wands to be waved over the paper, but are richly satisfying and rewarding instruments when perseveringly applied to a challenging piece of white paper.

My night thoughts lately have been along the lines of: “Do I have it in me to do another computer game? Is this what I want to do? Can I do it? What if the code-writing part of my brain has atrophied? Will I fail ignominiously? Should I just turn to screenwriting full-time?”
It doesn’t really matter a whole lot what they think – I’m the one that has to do it – but it sure as hell wouldn’t hurt to have them enthusiastic. In a few months I should have something to thrill them.

Today's Inspiration:
I am not sure that all of my inspiration comes from somewhere other than my own burning desire to do art. For sure part of it comes from the people in my life. Part of it comes from what is occurring in my life at any given time. Part of it comes from what is occurring in the world at any given time.
We didn’t choose art. Art chose us. It was as if we were born to do art. My Ma told me we started to draw at 3 and just never stopped. We were obsessed with it.
Most artists live in their head. Their head is filled with ideas about art and not much else.
live your art every second of your life. Never settle with your art. Continuously push yourself to do what you are sure you cannot do. Once you have mastered what you are sure you cannot master go further.
